IFA CONTINENTAL HOTEL, Las Palmas (The Canary Islands), Spain
Project
The IFA Continental Hotel of Las Palmas required an environmentally-friendly solution for its air conditioning system, as well as heating for 45,000 litres of water for guestrooms and its 800 m² outdoor pool. Given the high level of available sunlight in the Canary Islands, the client decided against an electricity-hungry conventional chilling and heating system. Instead, a combination of solar panels and two YAZAKI water-fired chillers was installed.
Task
The project required the installation of 104 flat solar panels to function together with the two YAZAKI WFC systems. The YAZAKI water-fired chillers employ the water heated by solar thermal energy to drive the simple absorption cooling, using an environmentally friendly solution of water and lithium bromide as a fluid. This makes it possible to cool the closed circuit water to 7°C in order to air-condition the hotel rooms.
Solution
Power centre consisting of:
- 1 YAZAKI unit, WFC-SC20 model
- 1 YAZAKI unit, WFC-SC30 model
- Solar collector field made up of 104 flat panels
Technical data of the installed YAZAKI absorption chillers
- 1 YAZAKI Li-Br absorption chiller, type WFC-SC 20
- 1 YAZAKI Li-Br absorption chiller, type WFC-SC 30
- Total cooling capacity: 175.8 kW
